Early Summer [ Winter ] [ Spring ] [ Early Summer ] [ School Holidays ] [ Late Summer ] [ Autumn ] Over the last few years it has been very warm in May and June. The lambs are growing and the valley is full of the sound of them. The swallows begin to arrive and can be seen taking the mud out of the river for their nests
The last of the daffodils can still be seen along the banks of the valley and the bluebells are around still, as are the primroses. There is a lot to see by foot, by bike or by arranging a horse ride across Beacon Hill. Lots of nesting going on and the heath land is positively alive with all types of birds and birds of prey.
The Buzzards have been known to land in the garden at Rose Cottage and we have seen a fox curl up and go to sleep by the shed. Mostly though there are nuthatches, willow tits, woodpeckers, dippers, kingfishers, tree creepers the odd blackcap and many more to be seen through the window.
The main tourist attractions are open and getting a steady trickle of visitors. Powis Castle is a joy all the summer and autumn.
A trip there to Welshpool can also take in several gardens in the vicinity as well as the Llanfair and Welshpool light railway www.wllr.org.uk On the way home the old railway station building on the ring road is now a retail outlet with a delightful café.
