School Holidays

[ Winter ] [ Spring ] [ Early Summer ] [ School Holidays ] [ Late Summer ] [ Autumn ]

There are so many attractions in this area and a little further afield, that it is only possible to list a few here.

As far as activities go, there is scope for all, from children and young adults who are happy to be passively entertained to those with so much energy they are always on the go!

There is plenty to do without even taking the car out!

There are cycle routes and walking maps showing routes to explore all around the local area both on and off road.

It is always worth having a paddle in the cold water of the river and looking for fish, frogs and crayfish.

The Radnorshire Wildlife Trust runs local events and projects which are updated on their website monthly. Well worth a look for your stay-or just visit the nature reserves on Beacon Hill (opposite the cottage). www.rwtwales.org more information is held in the cottage.

There is a leisure centre in Knighton (6miles)with a swimming pool.

Newtown (12miles) has ten pin bowling, a cinema and a theatre www.theatrhafren.com

Horse riding and guided mountain biking are also available locally-details on request

The beach at Aberdovey is an hours drive away and a stop at ‘Machinations’ Llanbrynmair will thrill most children (and Adults) There is a rabbit village, indoor activity centre, and a great display of working automatons made on the premises.

Because Rose Cottage is so close to Shropshire and Herefordshire as well as Wales it is very difficult to list all that is available, but I have picked some favourites.

The Spaceguard Centre-Knighton www.spaceguarduk.com

Learn all there is to know about asteroids, earth tremors,

stars and planets. Look through the massive telescope and experience the camera obscura.

The Judges Lodging –Presteigne (12 miles)

There is so much to see, to do, to experience and to learn. There is a huge climbing and activity area for when the children have pushed all the buttons and worked all the experimental machinery. There is also a wonderful restaurant and ice cream kiosk!
