From the window you will be able to see the beauty of the frost all over the fields; the river flows fast and remains unaffected.
It has snowed over the winter which is beautiful to see and to walk through, but it does not usually stay long. Luckily the main road outside is kept clear and Rose Cottage is rarely snowed in for longer than a few hours!
The river then collects a bit of ice...
There are still lots of opportunities to get out and about in wintry weather and it is a great time to see what else has been about.
The cottage has footprint silhouettes to help identify what you find! The animals at Hawthorns are fed twice a day in winter and visitors are welcome to participate - they are always pleased to have an extra hand to eat from!! The skies here are unpolluted by light and so you may be able to judge the weather for the following day!
Even without the snow there is plenty to see around the valley, along Offas Dyke, the Kerry Ridgeway, Glyndwr’s way and beyond
Of course you can just light the fire and look out of the window! (We have plenty of interesting birds visiting at this time of year)
or go to the pub have a meal and then play pool!
1st November - Dam open day – explore the inside of the spectacular Elan Valley dams Mid Wales Beer Festival 12th-22nd November Llanwrtyd Wells including the Real Ale Wobble on 13/14th which includes a mountain bike! The Winter Fair at the Royal Welsh Showground on November 26th-27th 2012 ( Dec 2nd/3rd 2013) http://www.rwas.co.uk There is a lot to see in the arena, judging and sale of animals as well as the many stalls and displays. There are Christmas gifts, a food hall, produce and handicraft show, floral art, Santa’s Grotto, craft and floral demonstrations. The Guardian Hay Festival Winter weekend with its usual bevy of authors and talks. Programme released annually in November. |
